This 10 minute video in 2 parts offers an overview of the development of agricultural practices in ancient societies. Part 1 discusses the limitations of foraging for food, and the advantages of farming - the domestication of animals and plants for nutrition. This move to agriculture meant humans changed also - technologically, socially and culturally. The development of farming led to more sedentary lifestyles, and the development of villages, rather than a nomadic existence. This then led to huge increases in the human populations. Part 2 looks at the two factors which led to the emergence of farming - a warming climate meant more types of plants and animals were available, and overpopulation made foraging difficult.
