Educational value
  • This resource supports the Australian Curriculum: History for year 10 relating to the causes and events of World War II. A description of events leading to the declaration of war is included in the entry for 1939 and the remaining timeline details the main events during the course of the war.
  • This resource is useful for the development of historical skills. Students select the key events in the Asia-Pacific theatre of war, for example, the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour, and present them as an annotated timeline.
  • The resource may also make a contribution to students attaining the history achievement standards in year 10 in relation to sequencing events and developments within a chronological framework, and has some relevance to the literacy capability and the critical and creative capability.
