Activity 3.2: a sustainable future
Introduction
In this activity, students investigate ways to improve the environmental sustainability of their own living environment. Students imagine a possible future for the area, creating new ideas to improve the place's liveability.
In small groups, students develop a pitch for creating a more sustainable future for their area, to be delivered as a short talk or a video response using a voice-over or presenter talking to drawings, maps and sourced images.

- Start the activity by asking students the question: What ideas could improve the liveability of your environment?
- In small groups, have students develop a pitch for creating a more sustainable future for their area. This could be delivered as a short talk using displays, maps and images. Alternatively, it could take the form of a video response to the question using a voice-over or presenter talking to drawings, maps and sourced images.
- Focusing questions could include:
- How can energy consumption be improved?
- How can you change the ways that people travel and transport goods to make them more environmental?
- What ways are there to help save basic resources such as water?
- In what ways can food be grown and transported to make this more environmental?
